2003 recipient of the College of Letters and Science Award for Outstanding Teaching My pedagogical interests include teaching various levels of Japanese, and focusing student attention on the acquisition of the four main language components of listening, speaking, writing, and reading. I also try to integrate cultural lessons in the classroom, such as contact with Japanese etiquette and other cultural traditions, and strongly support student efforts to study abroad in Japan. When I have spare time, I enjoy living in the beautiful Gallatin Valley, where I photograph wildlife and work on training my Japanese-breed of dog, a Shiba-inu which in Japan is a "natural monument," named Taiyo.
