2007

The latest books by Bridget Kevane (Spanish), "Profane & Sacred: Latino/a American Writers Reveal the Interplay of the Secular and the Religious," and Patricia Simpson (German), "The Erotics of War in German Romanticism," were featured at the Annual Holiday Authors' Reception Nov. 29, at Borders Books.

Stephen Trejo, Professor of Labor Economics, University of Texas, Austin, TX, spoke about "The SocioEconomic Progress of Mexican Americans" as part of the Borderland Lecture Series on november 8th.

Azouz Begag, noted French novelist, essayist, screenwriter, sociologist, and former French Minister for the Promotion of Equal Opportunities, visited MSU this fall. He gave a public lecture on October 30 at 7 p.m. in SUB Ballrooms B&C.

Helena Maria Viramontes, Author and Professor of Creative Writing at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY) gave a talk titled "Borders and Crossroads on the Streets of East L.A." in September.

Two German films, Costa Gavras "Amen" in September and Sönke Worthmann's "The Miracle of Bern" in October attracted good crowds in the first German film series.

Patricia Simpson , Professor of German introduced the film The Lives of Others at the Bozeman Film Festival.

 

2006

The Department sponsored a two-part film series last year, "Why Don't They Just Go Home?", presented in conjunction with the Bozeman Film Festival.

Pam Fitzpatrick & Paul Dix gave a presentation entitled "Living with the Consequences of U.S. Policy: A Nicaragua Photo/Testimony Project" on March 8.

 

2005

Filmmaker Mark Eisner was here for a showing and discussion of his film ¡Pablo Neruda! ¡Presente! in April.

 

2004

Klaus Berghahn gave a talk titled "Peace in the Age of Terrorism - Immanuel Kant's Peace Utopia" in October.
