Planets

The amount something weighs is determined by the strength of gravity. On Earth, gravity is the force that pulls things toward the ground. All the planets in our solar system have some gravity. The strength of each planet's gravity depends on that planet's mass.

Planet Gravitational Force Compared to Earth
Mercury 0.38
Venus 0.91
Earth 1.00
Mars 0.38
Jupiter 2.54
Saturn 1.16
Uranus 0.91
Neptune 1.20
Pluto 0.06

Mission: Learn how much you would weigh on other planets.

Experiment:

Step 1.
Step on the scale and weigh yourself. How much do you weigh on Earth?

Step 2.
Using the "Gravitational Force" chart, find out how much you would weigh on Mars. Use the calculator provided. Multiply your weight x .38 = your weight on Mars

Step 3.
Do steps 1-2 for all the other planets.

Theorize:

A.On which planets would you weigh more?
B.On which planets would you weigh less?
C.On which planets would you weigh about the same?
