Class G-1 and G-2 eight-coupled switchers were the largest and most efficient owned by
NP. During World War I the United States Railroad Administration had control of the
railroads and the G-l's were constructed according to U.S.R.A. specifications. Northern
Pacific liked them so well that they ordered 20 more almost identical G-2's.
All of the G-l's worked in the Twin City terminals. 1180-1185 and 1190-1193 spent nearly all their time at Laurel Yard and the l188-1189 at Livingston. The others worked in the Twin Cities, although a few were sent to Pasco for a short time. The 1172 is shown at Mississippi street, St. Paul, in July 1934. |
