Page #14 - Ron Nixon's Northern Pacific Locomotives

Class C-2 (694-695) 4-4-0 Standard. Total built 2. Baldwin Locomotive works, 1883.

The 695 is another Standard that was nearly saved--but not quite. 695 went the usual route of Standards until 1931 when it was retired from the Duluth-Ashland passenger run. NP chose 695 to represent NP pioneer power at the Chicago World Fair and used the engine in several previous displays in comparison to the giant Z-5s. But in 1933 the Minnetonka was recovered and 695 fell by the wayside. Its last appearance was at Glendive, and there it remained in the boneyard for years until being taken to Brainerd for scrapping. The photo was made at Glendive May 8, 1939.
