Page #47 - Ron Nixon's Northern Pacific Locomotives

Class H-2 (12) 0-4-2T Switcher. Total built 1. Baldwin Locomotive Works, 1889.

This locomotive was purchased originally by the Helena, Hot Springs and Smelter Railroad and later bought by the Elliston & Southern, a small railroad operating from Elliston, Montana. Taken over by NP and given the number 12, the engine was too small for road service and was assigned to South Tacoma for work in and around the shops. In 1931 the 12 was replaced by No. 9, rebuilt from NP 914, class L-6. The 12 was photographed at South Tacoma in November, 1930.
