Class P (250-258, 270-278) 4-6-0 Ten-wheeler. Total built 18. Schenectady Locomotive Works, 1897-1898.

| Comparatively heavy ten-wheelers were ordered for mainline passenger service but were used in that capacity for only a few years as they were soon replaced by Pacifics. But they spent many years over the entire system, usually hauling mainline stubs and branch passenger trains. They were last used out of Seattle and Tacoma where in the 1920s and 1930S they had a reputation of being ballast scorchers. Photo of the 252 was made at Seattle in June 1936. |
