MSU’s parking regulations are enforced year round, including summer break, Christmas break, spring break, and days with no classes but when MSU offices are open.

Starting September 1, 2005, hangtags will be used instead of bumper decals. All hangtags must be visible from the exterior of the vehicle. Hangtags are issued to the owner of the vehicle, not the vehicle, meaning the same hangtag can be used for Car A or Car B, but not both vehicles at the same time. If both cars come to campus, the car without the yearly hangtag must have a purchased daily hangtag. Those hangtags cost $2.50.

If Car B comes to campus, but the hangtag is left at home or at the repair shop in Car A, the driver of Car B must purchase a $2.50 hangtag for the day. There is no other way of being sure that Car A is also not on campus with the owner’s hangtag. All cars on campus must have a valid hangtag purchased from the University Police.

The 2007-08 parking rates are

  • $150 for a SB hangtag, a $9 increase
  • $150 for an E hangtag, a $9 increase
  • $98 for a D hangtag, a $14 increase
  • $60 for an F hangtag, a $9 decrease

Parking Policy

Parking on MSU-Bozeman campus is a privilege, not a right. Our primary interest is to foster convenience and safety for all people working and visiting the campus and to facilitate the efficient operation of the University.

Please acquaint yourself with the current regulations governing campus parking. It’s the best way to avoid a ticket or loss of privileges. Ignorance of the regulations will only hurt you!

There are no free parking areas on campus!

All parking lots are constructed, maintained, operated, and administered through parking fees which are paid by all patrons. Parking regulations for Montana State University-Bozeman are published on an annual basis, both in print and on this Web site. Past and present presidents of the University have approved these regulations and the Board of Regents of the Montana University System has approved those segments that deal with cost, fines, and enforcement.
