- The auditionee only needs to perform the music in the bracketed sections
- It is EXTREMELY beneficial for you to listen to many different recordings to hear how these excerpts are played within the context of the music (style, tempo, articulations, etc.) FYI-there is no recording for the xylophone excerpt
- The audition is MANDATORY for admittance into these two large ensembles (though you can pick which one you will participate in)
- Instruments will be set up in the practice rooms one week before the audition
- NEW**- chair status will determine who is on first call for paying gigs with the Bozeman Symphony, as well as paying gigs in and around the Bozeman area (Helena Symphony, Billings Symphony, etc..). This will be extremely beneficial for you to be able to put on your resume
Piano/Harp
The ensembles occasionally employ the use of piano/harp when a composition calls for it. If you are interested in playing piano in either the Symphony Orchestra or the Wind Symphony, please plan to attend the percussion audition session on Monday evening. You will be asked to play a 2-minute piece of your choosing and a brief sight-reading excerpt. For questions or more information, please contact bands@montana.edu.
