Director, Spirit of the West Marching Band
Dr. Nathan Stark is director of the "Spirit of the West" Marching Band and conducts the Wind Symphony and University Band at Montana State University. Dr. Stark comes to MSU from Cleveland, Ohio where he served as Assistant Director of Bands and Lecturer of Music Education at Case Western Reserve University. Prior to that, he was Visiting Director of the Boise State "Blue Thunder" Marching Band and took the band to the 2010 nationally-televised Fiesta Bowl. Apart from ensemble directing, Nathan is a freelance performer and a professional drill designer with over ten years charting experience for high school and university marching bands. Nathan has toured the nation as a member of the Santa Clara Vanguard drum and bugle corps and has performed in many orchestral "back-up" ensembles for famous professional groups - most notably the Three Tenors, Les Miserables, The Bolshoi Ballet, The Moody Blues and Riders of the Purple Sage. Dr. Stark holds his B.M. in Music Education from Boise State University, and his M.M. and D.M.A. in Instrumental Performance from Arizona State University.
