The Electric MONSTER Laptop Ensemble is the laptop ensemble at Montana State University, founded by Hsiao-Lan Wang in 2009. Laptop computers have revolutionized the way music can be made around the turn of the 21st century with its mobility and connectivity readily in place. The Electric MONSTER Laptop Ensemble brings together the tradition of ensemble music playing and the computational power of the latest laptops at the crossroads of human-machine performative experience. A variety of software is used in the group, including custom-built applications. Electric MONSTER actively commissions new pieces written specifically for the ensemble from composers all over the world, as well as revitalizes established works in the experimental music genre.
