Dean's Welcome
Welcome to the website of the College of Nursing at Montana State University. Whatever
your reason for visiting this site, we are pleased you are here. You
can access a lot of information about the College on this site, from information
about our academic and research programs to the policies and procedures that
guide the way we work.
The College of Nursing has four main campuses and one
outreach site. While
we may have five instructional sites, we have just one undergraduate
curriculum,
so students receive very similar, but not identical, and always excellent,
education no matter where they are. The masters
program is a state-wide
program delivered through distance methods with intensive sessions where students
and faculty meet by telecommunication methods. One meeting a year is
held on the main campus in Bozeman.
Our faculty and students are both impressive. Faculty
research and scholarly interests are
broad, but all have a base in rural nursing practice. Dr. Hill, a researcher
with interests in environmental health, was the recipient of the Provost’s
Award for Undergraduate Research/Creativity Mentoring in May, 2006. The
faculty members on the Great Falls campus provide student health services to
the various university students in that city.
Students also achieve at a high level. Graduates of the baccalaureate
program pass the NCLEX licensing examination at a rate well above the national
average, and last year achieved a 97% pass rate! Every single one of
the graduates from the family nurse practitioner
program have
passed the national certification exam on the first try. In addition
to their obviously excellent preparation for entry into practice roles, our
students also excel in many other ways. This past year one of the graduate
students, Jennifer Hampton, received the Outstanding Graduate Student (masters
level) Award from the university; three undergraduate students, Kara Katrin
Bakke, Ann Brandom Jones and Erick Lee Tombe were recognized for their contributions
to their communities and the profession.
If you are interested in joining us as a student, a faculty
member, or just as an interested person, do not hesitate to call
or e-mail. We are always interested in telling you more about the College
and nursing as a career.
Again, welcome, enjoy your time with us. I hope to see you soon.
