Prospective Post Baccalaureate Students (BSN)

Prospective Post Baccalaureate Students

Because you have already obtained a bachelor’s degree, you will only need to meet the requirements of the nursing major to complete your Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN).  Your first degree satisfies CORE 2.0 for Montana State University (MSU). College Writing (W) and University Seminar (US) (College of Nursing requirements) are waived.  If those courses were previously completed, the grades are not used in the calculation of priority points in the upper division application process.

As part of the application process to MSU, you must submit official transcripts from all prior colleges and universities.  The Office of Admissions will then forward those transcripts to the advisor at the College of Nursing.  To review how your prior course work would satisfy nursing requirements contact Pat Hanson, Coordinator of Undergraduate Student Services at phanson@montana.edu or by phone at (406) 994-2660.

MSU has a transfer equivalency website that shows how certain courses from selected colleges and universities will transfer to MSU.  You can do your own research on how courses you have taken elsewhere will transfer to MSU.  Click on the following link https://atlas.montana.edu:9000/pls/bzagent/hwzkxfer.p_selstate to explore this website.  Not all schools are represented on this site and only courses that have been reviewed by the Admission’s evaluators have been entered.

The College of Nursing also has a process for evaluating transcripts for prospective post baccalaureate students.  If you would like to receive the packet to start the evaluation process please complete the online request information form.  Once you have received your packet, please complete the Temporary Worksheet to the best of your ability and return it with transcripts from each school attended (need not be official transcripts for this evaluation).  Once your completed Temporary Worksheet and transcript/s have been received, within 4-6 weeks you will be contacted to discuss this evaluation with you.

Advising Appointment

The College of Nursing holds formal Orientation sessions which it expects students to attend in order to be well informed about our programs.  As part of the Orientation session, you will be advised and may register for your classes.  There are weekly Orientation sessions during the summer for students who are enrolling in the fall, as well as a formal Orientation just prior to fall classes starting.  To attend one of the summer sessions, contact Pat Hanson at least a week in advance as space is limited.  Please be sure to bring your transcript/s to these sessions.

Prospective 2nd degree students who would like to schedule an advising appointment should contact Pat Hanson (contact information above).

Please refer to Frequently Asked Questions for more information about the BSN program and the application process and answers to commonly asked questions.
