Giving to the College

The College of Nursing continues to excel thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends. Your donations of time, knowledge and financial support make a difference in the lives of our students. Please know that we are grateful for your contributions and we welcome your gift at any level. In short, we need you!  If you have questions regarding your contribution to the college, please don’t hesitate to call Stacy Stanislao, Director of Development at 406-994-2710.

Ways to Help

Volunteering – The College of Nursing values your time and assistance with events across the country, special committees and student/alumni relations.  Share your expertise as a volunteer.

Cash gifts – Give the college a donation every year (or at your convenience) which can be designated for any program.  These gifts can also be earmarked for the Dean to decide where funds are most needed.  Cash gifts are often made during the MSU Foundation Annual Fund/Phonathon and are accepted by personal check, credit card, money order or bank draft.

Cash gifts can also be multiplied to MSU through a donor’s employer matching gift
program. Some companies will match an employee’s donation up to three times the gift amount. An employer’s Human Resources department can provide details upon request.

Endowments – Many donors have used endowments to provide for the College in perpetuity. The donor designates the purpose for an endowment and contributes a minimum principal amount to start the endowment fund. The principal is permanently invested by the MSU Foundation. Each year the spendable income from the investment is used to support the designated College program. Endowments perpetuate a donor’s legacy by continuing to meet educational needs.

Honorary or Memorial Gifts – A special way to honor important people in our lives - teachers, mentors, relatives or colleagues - is through honorary or memorial donations. When these gifts are made, the MSU Foundation notifies the honoree or next of kin, while the gift is administered as specified by the donor. Honorary or memorial gifts also are highlighted in an exclusive section in the MSU Foundation’s Honor Roll of Donors publication.

Planned and Major Gifts – Other donors have made a substantial impact through planned gifts. These gifts provide tax incentives and guaranteed income for the donor, and also greatly benefit the College of Nursing. Bequests, trusts, and appreciated securities are among the deferred giving options available to donors interested in making lasting gifts that fit into long-range estate and financial plans.

Gifts of appreciated securities, real and personal property – An outright gift, or one made in trust, of appreciated property such as publicly traded securities or real estate can be made to support any program designated within the College of Nursing. The fair market value of the gift qualifies as a charitable deduction for income tax purposes and there are no capital gains taxes on the appreciation. (Gifts of property and real estate require appraisal procedures and prospective donors should contact the Gift Planning office of the MSU Foundation for details. The office can be reached at 406/994-2053.)
