Crop protection clinics set in four towns in February

 1/16/2002

BOZEMAN -- What's the newest info on crop rotations, malting barley, fertilizer management, and alternative crops? How about durum wheat production, developing a groundwater protection plan or what to look for in air drills?

These and a dozen other topics will be discussed during Montana State University's 2002 Crop Protection Clinics in four Montana communities.

MSU, Agricultural Experiment Station and Extension Service specialists have scheduled intensive one-day programs at the Fairfield Community Hall Feb. 11, Havre's MSU-Northern SUB ballroom Feb. 12, Malta's Great Northern Hotel basement Feb. 13 and Lewistown's Eagle's Hall Feb. 14 to cover topics both specialized to each of the communities and of interest in general.

The all-day workshop costs $25, which covers a printed proceedings and a lunch. Attendees can qualify for four Certified Crop Adviser credits or two pesticide applicator credits by completing the workshops.

"We asked people around the state what they wanted to know about. That's how we ended up with programs tailored to each community as well as some topics that were important in all of the communities," says Jeff Jacobsen, head of MSU Land Resources and Environmental Sciences.

Though MSU County Extension offices would appreciate a call so they have a head-count for lunch, registration at the door also is allowed. To preregister for the program in Havre, contact the Blaine County Extension Office 357-3200 or 357-2359; for the program in Malta contact the Phillips County Extension Office 654-2543; for the Fairfield meeting contact the Teton County Extension Office 466-2491; and for the Lewistown meeting contact the Fergus County Extension Office 538-3919 or 538-7611.
