BOZEMAN -- The Montana Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative steering committee is accepting applications for demonstration project grants for 2002.
The purpose of the grants is not to fund individual ranch projects, but to provide funds to groups for innovative grazing management practices. The projects must be initiated and sponsored through grassroots individuals and/or groups and must be a demonstration of some aspect of grazing land improvement and management. Project applications must relate to the local area, but the research information gathered from the demonstration should be applicable throughout a larger area.
This year the steering committee will accept applications for both short-term projects (one to two years) and more comprehensive, long-term projects (three or more years). Projects are rated based on their significance in benefiting private lands grazing in Montana, and their grassroots direction and involvement.
Deadline for application submission is March 1. Contact your local Montana State University Extension or Natural Resources Conservation Service offices for more information and to obtain an application form.
