04/16/98 BOZEMAN - Montana companies that have taken recent steps to reduce waste in the workplace may be eligible for the EcoStar Program.
The program publicly recognizes small businesses in Montana for efforts to protect the environment, and business people need to submit applications for the program by May 8, 1998 (If reading this after that date, please consider getting information to apply for the program next year.). Any type of business is eligible provided it is located in Montana, actively working to reduce waste, and in compliance with environmental regulations at the time of submission.
The program is sponsored by Montana State Universitys Extension Service Pollution Prevention Program.
Last year, the program recognized 34 Montana companies for their efforts to reduce waste in the workplace, says Todd MacFadden, MSU Extensions Pollution Prevention Technical Specialist.
"This year, we hope to identify even more forward-thinking businesses," says MacFadden.
Public recognition can provide businesses with a competitive advantage, help them attract new customers, enhance customer loyalty and boost employee morale, he adds.
Qualified businesses receive window decals, display ads, a news story distributed to appropriate newspapers and trade associations, award certificate and are eligible for the prestigious Small Business Administration's Pollution Prevention Award.
Application is both simple and free, and companies accepted are automatically nominated for the prestigious Small Business Administration Pollution Prevention Award, given to one outstanding business each year.
