BOZEMAN -- Montana State University-Bozeman's new Extension Service human
development and family specialist is now on campus.
For Sandy Bailey, it's coming home.
A 1972 graduate of Bozeman High School, Bailey received her bachelor's and master's degrees at MSU with her doctorate in family studies from Oregon State University. She fills the position vacated by Steve Duncan last year. Before coming to MSU, she taught human development and family courses at Washington State University and the University of New Mexico.
"There is no 'one type' of family nor one 'right way' to be a family," says Bailey. "We need to provide information on how diverse family structures can work well. I'd like to expand that information for Extension agents and communities to help provide support for Montana families."
One of her other early goals in the position is to help those who need to measure the effect of Extension family programs. Extension has adopted what is called a "logic model" for assessing how programs affect Montana. Bailey has evaluated Extension and human service programs in Washington, Oregon and New Mexico. Part of her work at Washington State University was measuring outcomes of programs.
Bailey began at MSU in July. She can be contacted at 406 994-6745 or baileys@montana.edu
