MSU Animal Science Students Take 2nd in Region

04/19/98 BOZEMAN --  A team of Montana State University animal science students placed second at the Western Region Academic Quadrathlon held in March at Provo, Utah.

Team members included Will Graveley of Avon, Heath Martinell of Lima, J. R. Peterson of Wilsall and Justin Roscoe of Dillon.

The team competed against seven western universities in the event, which was sponsored by the American Society of Animal Science, said Lisa Surber, MSU Animal and Range Sciences research associate and team advisor. Brigham Young University won top honors.

The competition included a written exam on various animal science topics, a lab practical exam consisting of judging, animal care, feeding and breeding of different livestock species, a discussion group and a quiz bowl. To qualify for the western region competition, the team first had to win a local competition at MSU.

Next year, MSU will host this regional event.
