Bozeman --- The Residence Hall Association (RHA) at Montana State University garnered the prestigious School of the Year award at the recent Inter-Mountain Affiliate of the National Association of College & University Residence Halls conference in Edmonton, Alberta.

Competing against 30 other schools in the region, MSU was selected first based on the strength of the RHA program and will now go on to the national competition in Los Angeles, California to compete against eight other regional winners for the national title, MSU RHA officials said.

“To be recognized by our peers as having the top RHA program in the Inter-Mountain Region is an outstanding honor,” said Residence Life Department head Tammie Brown.  “It speaks volumes about the quality of our program and the dedicated leadership we have in place.”

The award was based on an elaborate bid package highlighting the various activities of RHA throughout the school year.  MSU’s presentation focused on RHA’s goal of providing quality programs, activities, events and services that educate and promote personal growth in order to improve the overall quality of life in the residence halls, Brown said.

Approximately 650 students who live in the residence halls compose RHA at MSU.  The group collectively plans and implements programs and activities throughout the school year, providing students a unique opportunity to hone skills needed once they graduate.

“RHA is an introduction to the responsibilities and communication needed to become successful in a real job setting, as well as the opportunity to get to know and meet people across campus,” said Heath “Tad” Bradley of Plattsburgh, N.Y.
