09/07/99 BOZEMAN - -Applications are now available in the MSU University Honors Program office for the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarships recognizing excellence in mathematics, science or engineering.
The Goldwater Scholarship, for $7,500 annually, is the country=s premier undergraduate science and math award. Applicants must be sophomores or juniors, have excellent academic records and demonstrated interest in careers in math, the natural sciences and engineering.
Thirty-one MSU students have received prestigious Goldwater Scholarships in the programs 11-year history. MSU is among the top five institutions in the country in the number of Goldwater recipients. The most recent MSU recipients, named last spring, are: Amanda Cundy of Bozeman, and Lindsey Nussbaum and Jennifer Nyman, both of Great Falls. All three are students in the MSU College of Engineering.
Applicants are now available in the University Honors office, room 106 of Quad D. They must be completed and returned no later than Nov. 10. At that time a university committee will nominate four candidates to be submitted to the national competition by Feb. 1.
