MSU offers Internet program for school library media specialists

            Bozeman -- Montana State University is offering core certification classes for prospective school library media specialists and school administrators On-Line beginning this fall.

            MSU has been selected as the lead institution for a national demonstration project in distance education by the U.S. Department of Education.  Through collaboration with the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, the University of South Dakota and Northern State University in South Dakota, the core courses required for certification in the two target content areas will
be offered during the next two years.

            The fall semester will offer two courses, one in each content area.  EDCI 415 will be offered at MSU-Bozeman and registration is now open.  The University of Nevada-Las Vegas will deliver the course, School Law.

            "Information Literacy and Education Change," EDCI 415, Sept. 12 - Dec. 20.  The class focuses on the enhancement of skills in instructional design emphasizing information and media literacy, collaboration activities, instructional role of the library media professional, and programs in the educational community. Students should be certified teachers with experience using computers in their classroom teaching, or the class may be taken with the consent of the instructor. Students receive two undergraduate semester credits. Bruwelheide will be the instructor. Tuition for the class is $380. All materials will be provided On-Line.
