Bozeman Montana State University President Geoff Gamble has appointed Craig Roloff, executive director of University Budgets, to serve as Vice President for Administration and Finance on an acting basis.
Craig has the experience and technical skills needed to carry on with our fiscal and administration duties without missing a beat, Gamble said. His work with the University Planning, Budget and Analysis Committee (UPBAC) and a recent strategic planning retreat has proven that he can effectively handle the planning and analytical side of the job.
Roloff will fill the position recently held by Tom Stump, who has moved to the director of MSUs Auxiliary Services post. Gamble said during the interim, he plans to examine the organizational structure of other institutions, and will seek input in identifying and analyzing alternatives to MSUs current structure.
This is a dynamic time for all of us at MSU, and I ask for the cooperation of all units as we work together to move the university forward, Gamble said.
Roloff said he looks forward to helping President Gamble
design and implement the administrative organization that will best serve MSU in the
future.
During this transition period, I am going to ask all of those in the
Administrative Division to focus on the tasks that will best serve the top priorities that
have been embraced by the University: student access and success; accountability to our
academic community and the State; and service to our employees, Roloff said.
Roloff said one of his immediate
priorities is to work with President Gamble, Provost David
Dooley and the UPBAC to continue the Universitys development of a Strategic Plan,
and a budget for the next fiscal year.
A native of Iowa, Roloff received his bachelors
degree from Iowa State University, and an M.Ed. degree from Montana State University. He
came to MSU in 1978 as a staff architect in Facilities Services and then became the
assistant director of University Planning. Soon after he was the director of
Administrative Services. In 1987 he was appointed assistant vice president of
Administration and Finance. He was named director of the Budget Office in 1994, which
included the title of Assistant Vice President of Administration and Finance. In 1998, he
was appointed as the executive director of University Budgets, reporting to the MSU
President.
Roloff and his wife, Mary, assistant director of MSUs National Science Foundation EPSCoR program, have three children.
It is a pleasure to work with Dr. Gamble, Roloff said. He
is going to lead MSU to many successes in the coming years.
