Stump moves over to direct MSU Auxiliary Services

09/14/2001 BOZEMAN -- In a reorganization of his top administrators, MSU President Geoff Gamble has reassigned Tom Stump, MSU’s Vice President for Administration and Finance, to assume the position of director of MSU’s Auxiliary Services.

Tom Stump will replace Glenn Lewis, director of MSU auxiliaries, who is currently also the acting director of MSU Athletics. Lewis has announced he plans to retire as soon as a new athletic director is found.

“One of my goals during the first year of my presidency is to build a leadership team that best matches individual strengths with institutional needs,” Gamble said of the move. “Tom’s decision does make such a match.”

Stump will begin his new duties Monday, Sept. 24.

“I was interested in making this move because I felt it was a good match of my skills and background with the needs of the organization,” Stump said. “I have a great deal of experience that complements the strengths of this division, which is a significant part of the university.”

As director of Auxiliary Services, Stump will use his background in facilities and finance to direct one of the largest departments in the university. Auxiliary Services comprises the departments of Residence Life, Family and Graduate Housing, Sports Facilities, the Strand Student Union and the MSU Food Service. He will report directly to Allen Yarnell, Vice President for Student Affairs, as has Lewis.

Stump came to MSU-Bozeman in 1998 from MSU-College of Technology at Great Falls to serve as the interim CFO of MSU, one of the university’s top administrators. In 1999, the late Pres. Mike Malone permanently appointed him to the position. During his tenure, he has successfully converted the university to the Banner computer system and enhanced the Business Services Department. Throughout his tenure he has impressed both staff and administrators with his dedication to the university and the people who make it work.

MSU President Geoff Gamble said he will not immediately search for a successor for Stump. Rather, he will take the opportunity to analyze MSU’s financial operations and how that division should best be organized to meet his management and leadership styles as well as the evolution of the university.
