01/17/2002 Bozeman--Applications are now available for U-DOC, a six-week summer enrichment program at Montana State University-Bozeman for students in junior or senior year in high school with a serious interest in medicine and the health professions. This year's program will be June 23 - Aug. 2.

All 12 participants receive full scholarships to the program. Applicants must be Montana residents, and in their junior or senior year in high school at the time they apply. The program targets disadvantaged students, or students who are experiencing circumstances that may hinder them from achieving their goals. The postmark deadline for applications is March 15.

The U-DOC Program is associated with the WWAMI Regional Medical Program at the University of Washington and its Montana site at MSU-Bozeman, and with the Montana Area Health Education Center. The program is not offered for credit.

Participants will study anatomy and physiology, a math/science unit and communications and will be offered job-shadowing opportunities and sessions with guest speakers. Students also learn about applying to medical school, financial aid, and study skills, and take field trips to clinics and hospitals. Students live in dorms under the supervision of resident advisers. Recreational activities have included hiking, swimming, river floats, volleyball, access to MSU sports facilities, and attending Shakespeare in the Parks plays.

Applications and recommendation/evaluation forms can be downloaded from the Web site, at http://healthinfo.montana.edu/U-DOC/default.html.s Application packets are sent by mid-January to high school guidance and science departments.

For more information, call (406) 994-6001, or e-mail U-DOC@montana.edu Larry Jackson, U-DOC program director.
