Montana Youth Receive Montana 4-H Foundation Scholarships

9/15/99 - BOZEMAN - Seven Montana young people were recently awarded scholarships through the Montana 4-H Foundation.

Renee Fisher, 18, of Kalispell received the Montana Meat Processors’ Scholarship. Fisher is the daughter of Victor Hannam and Doreen Hannam, and is a student at Montana State University-Bozeman, majoring in agriculture education with a minor in biology. She plans to become an agriculture teacher.

Ryan Fisher, 18, of Kalispell received the Montana Agri-business Scholarship. Fisher is the son of Victor Hannam and Doreen Hannam, and is attending Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming; the scholarship will be used when Fisher transfers to MSU in Bozeman. He plans to use his college education to help farmers receive loans to pay debts.

Mandy Gundlach, 18, of Birney received the Montana Agri-business Scholarship. Gundlach is the daughter of Kelly and Lea Gundlach, and studies agri-business and communications at Casper College in Casper, Wyo. Gundlach has been involved in competitive livestock judging for five years and hopes to someday work for the USDA as an ag resource economist.

Camila Hoff, 18, of Dagmar has won the Montana Wheat and Barley Scholarship. She is the daughter of Ivan and Avice Hoff. Hoff attends the University of Montana, where she majors in finance, political science and orginizational communications. She hopes to one day return to a rural community and work in economic development.

Sarah May, 18, of Ismay has won the Montana Wheat and Barley Scholarship. May is the daughter of Marilyn and Jim May, and is a former state 4-H officer. She attends MSU in Bozeman, and studies Family and Consumer Science with an education/extension option. She hopes to teach Family & Consumer Science and/or become a county Extension agent.

Amanda McGowan, 17, of Helena has won the Douglas A. Dear Scholarship for excellence in horsemanship. She is the daughter of William and Vicki McGowan and attends Carroll College, majoring in biology. She hopes to become a vet technician or a biology teacher in Montana.

Denice Vennes, 20, of Townsend has won the N.A. Jacobsen Memorial Scholarship, which goes each year to a junior or senior in the MSU-Bozeman College of Agriculture who is interested in a career with MSU Extension. Vennes is the daughter of Gail and Lorrie Vennes and attends MSU-Bozeman, where she is studying Extension education and animal science. She hopes to become an Extension agent in or near Montana and work to bring 4-H opportunities to youth.
