Cascade Co. 4-H'ers donate hand-sewn blankets

For the past five years, sewing machines and sergers have hummed furiously as Cascade County 4-H'ers met to construct baby blankets for low-income mothers. This year, the group sewed 143 blankets. The project was open to all volunteers, regardless of their sewing ability. Cost of the fabric and supplies was covered by the Deaconess Foundation; all of the sewing machines, sergers and monogramming machines were provided by Fabrics Galore; St. Luke's Church donated use of space for construction.

"This is a great project for members to develop sewing skills, as well as gaining a good feeling about helping the less fortunate," said Cascade County Extension Agent Sheryl Knowles.

Each baby blanket has a special monogrammed message: "Made by loving hands--Cascade County 4-H."
