Cartwright Sioux 4-H club sews dolls for children in the hospital

At the Sidney Hospital, kids who are about to undergo surgery are comforted with dolls made by Cartwright Sioux 4-H'ers. Last year, the club contributed 120 dolls, which members assembled as a group. Yellowstone Mercantile of Sidney gave the group a huge discount on materials, and the kids did the rest.

The project started about a year ago, said 4-H leader Elaine Tjelde, when some girls from the sewing project saw a notice from Johns Hopkins University asking for homemade dolls to distribute to sick children. It seemed like such a great idea, they decided to make more dolls for their hometown.

"Everyone helped stuff and turn the dolls," said Elaine. "It was a really good experience for everyone, and it really helps the younger ones who had never sewn before."
