Sometimes, all it takes is a good idea and some helping hands. Such was the case with the Relations through Reading program, started this past spring by Gallatin County 4-H volunteer Lisa Henderson.

Through the program, older 4-H members take turns visiting area schools and reading books to kids in kindergarten through fourth grade.

"I just really enjoy reading," said Cassie Schultz of the Belgrade's Best 4-H Club, who read to second- and third-graders in Belgrade.

Angel Chvilicek of the Gateway Challengers took time off from Bozeman High School to read to Heritage Christian School third- and fourth-graders.

"The best part is just interacting with the kids," she said.

For Lisa, the Relations Through Reading was her first 4-H experience. "I love books, and I love to read," she said. "I wanted to do some work with kids, and get involved in the community. Also, this is a great way to promote 4-H through word of mouth."
