Donor Offers 56 4-H Scholarships--one for each Montana County

Terry Wolfe
Executive Director, Montana 4-H Foundation

9/01/99 - BOZEMAN –A unique donation from a former 4-H member will grant a scholarship award to a 4-H’er from every Montana county.

Fifty-six $500 awards will be available through the "Volunteer Spirit Scholarship" program, granted by an anonymous 4-H alumna.

"I want to do something to give back to 4-H. I had a wonderful 4-H leader and county agent who helped me get started in life," said the woman, who was a Montana 4-H’er during the 1920s and 1930s.

The total amount of the donation is $30,000: $28,000 for the scholarships and $2000 for administration of the program.

Terry Wolfe, executive director of the Montana 4-H Foundation, said the donation is extremely helpful for 4-H youth.

"It is experiences like this that make the work of finding 4-H friends who want to invest in today’s 4-Hers exciting and gratifying," Wolfe added.

Volunteer Spirit Scholarship applications are available through all Montana State University county Extension offices. Applications are due November 1, and winners will be announced Dec. 1.
