The Collective Bargaining Agreements require each department and college to develop and maintain a document entitled Role, Scope, Criteria, Standards and Procedures, often referred to as the Role and Scope documents.

Approval Process
Each College and Department will develop their Role and Scope document my modifying the colored text in the template. A department's Role and Scope document must be approved as follows [CBA 10.01.01]:
- Department faculty
- Department Head
- College Review Commitee
- College Dean
- URPTC (University Retention Promotion and Tenure Committee)
- Provost
Once approved by the college dean, the Role and Scope document is submitted to the Office of the Provost for review by the URPTC and the Provost. Submit Role and Scope documents to Ron Larsen at ronl@montana.edu.
Once approved by the Provost, completed Role and Scope dcouments will be posted on this web page.
Applicable Role and Scope Documents
- Retention Review: Use the Role in Scope in effect at time of hire
- Tenure Review: Use the Role and Scope in effect when notified of successful retention review - or - the faculty may request to use the most current Role and Scope document.
- Promotion (to full professor) Review: As of May 2012, it is still to be determined whether to use the Role and Scope in effect when notified of successful retention review or the most current Role and Scope document. <this will be updated when this decision has been made>
