Advising Goals
To provide each student with individual, accurate,
consistent, accessible, and personal advising.
Advising Policy
Incoming freshmen and transfer students are immediately
assigned to the Director of Student Services (DSS). The DSS
becomes a secondary advisor to freshmen and transfer students
at the first pre-registration session, at which time a
primary advisor is assigned. Both the DSS and the
primary advisor are assigned and available to the student
for the five-year duration of our program. Advising is
required prior to the freshman year, and at each
pre-registration point. Advising is particularly important
for freshmen, to help the student complete the required
courses for admission into second year. It is also
important during the fifth year when the student is
striving to meet graduation requirements.
Recent Changes and Future Plans
- To Improve Quality of Advising
- The school recently appointed a tenured faculty member to
serve as director of student services. The person in this
position is responsible for freshmen and transfer student
orientations, advisor (secondary) of freshmen and transfer
students, and coordinator of graduates. Having a person in
this position has provided consistency and accessibility
for our students.
- To Improve Accessibility of Advisors
- The director of student services provides the needed
accessibility.
