Advising Goals
The advising goals for the Department of Music are to
provide each advisee with a full-time faculty academic
advisor who supplies timely, informed, and effective
advising throughout the student's matriculation period.
Advising Policy
Advisees are assigned an advisor at the beginning of the
Fall term and, unless there are problems between the two,
will keep the advisor throughout their work at MSU.
Advisors are expected to meet with their advisees once
each term to discuss progress towards the degree, musical
performance standards, grades, and pre-registration
procedures for the following term. Advisors are asked to
meet with their students prior to the pre-registration
period, or more frequently if necessary.
Recent Changes and Future Plans
- To Improve Quality of Advising
- The Department has compiled an advising guide for all
faculty. This guide outlines curricular requirements as
well as the procedures for handling a variety of advising
situations (i.e., drop/adds, advance standing, waivers/
substitutions, TEPP, etc.). The guide also includes a
copy of all pertinent student forms and applications.
The faculty have found the guide useful in answering
a variety of student/faculty advising questions.
- To Improve Accessibility of Advisors
-
Students have not expressed concern regarding the accessibility of advisors.
