Advising Goals

Facilitate matriculation through the nursing curriculum in a timely manner.

Facilitate identity with professional nursing and development of leadership potential.

Facilitate preparation to successfully seek employment in professional nursing.

Advising Policy

The local Campus Director is responsible for assigning every student to a specific faculty advisor. Academic advisors are required to have a minimum of two contacts per semester per student, but commonly see students more frequently based on academic progress and need. Students facing academic difficulties or personal issues which affect academic performance are requested to conference with their academic advisor. The requested conference can be initiated by the student, by faculty working with the student, by the advisor, or by the Campus Director. Each advisor/advisee meeting is noted in the student's advising file. Students may request a change in advisors by initiating a request with the Campus Director. All new faculty undergo an extensive orientation to the advising process. Faculty are expected to address the quantity and quality of their advising in every annual review/evaluation.

Recent Changes and Future Plans

To Improve Quality of Advising
With improved computer access for faculty, it is anticipated that computerized advisement will update and improve faculty advising activities. Plans to formally gather student evaluation data of the advising process are under discussion.

To Improve Accessibility of Advisors
To date, accessibility of advisors has not been problematic. Student feedback remains generally positive and faculty will continue to have frequent contact with advisees. Administrative oversight of the process through the Campus Directors facilitates early recognition and resolution of potential advising issues.
