Announcement of Faculty Assessment Representative Position

To: Tenured, Tenure-track, and Retired Tenured Faculty
From:  Joseph A. Chapman, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
Date: March 10, 1997
Re: Faculty Assessment Representative

The Provost's Office is seeking a faculty member who is tenured, tenure-track, or recently retired with tenure to assist the office in implementing the university's student outcomes assessment program. Assessment has become a major concern of the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, and review of our program will be a focus of their accreditation visit to campus in October of 1999.

Successful applicants for this part-time position will demonstrate an interest in outcomes assessment and have a record of strong commitment to undergraduate instruction. Responsibilities include meeting with faculty from all academic departments to assist them in enhancing their assessment efforts, serving on the Assessment and Outcomes Committee to address campus-wide assessment issues, working with the Teaching/Learning Committee to plan workshops and seminars to introduce faculty to assessment issues and techniques, and assisting the Core Curriculum Committee in assessing general education. The time commitment for this position will be 0.25-0.33 FTE through FY98, with potential reappointment for FY99.

Interested faculty should submit a letter of application, a current vita, and signatures of approval from the department head and dean to the Provost's Office by April 1, 1997. Applications will be screened by the Assessment and Outcomes Committee, and the appointment will be made by the Provost.

cc: President Michael Malone
