Use of MSU Staff Interpreters For Academic Purposes
Due to an increase demand for interpreters to be present to sign at functions associated with Montana State University, the following policy is being implemented effective immediately
MSU staff interpreters are available for scheduling 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday thru Friday. If not otherwise scheduled, interpreters may be scheduled to sign for functions associated with MSU, i.e., President's State of the College address, speakers, meetings, etc. Please note the following:
- Scheduling of staff interpreters will only be approved if there is no conflict with the schedules of students receiving interpreting accommodations
- Staff interpreters will be paid through Disabled Student Services for approved events during the regular work day.
To schedule an interpreter for a function please contact Disabled Student Services to check interpreter's availability and request assignment. Call 994-2824 or email Brenda York byork@montana.edu
For all functions that do not fall within the above parameters, the request will be determined as follows:
- Staff interpreters will only be provided at DSS cost after approval from the Director, for specific requests from MSU students receiving interpreting services and only for MSU academic related functions. Students must come into DSS and pick up a "Request for Interpreting" form and provide all necessary information to be submitted for approval.
- All other functions wanting to utilize interpreting services must pay for interpreters from their own funds. A flyer containing referral numbers for interpreters in the area can be provided. Interpreters on the referral list are not affiliated with Montana State University and will provide services on a contractual basis between themselves and the organization wishing to hire an interpreter.
