Applying for DVA Education Benefits

PRIOR RECIPIENTS - If you have collected DVA education benefits as a civilian and are continuing in the same benefits program, it will not be necessary for you to reapply for benefits. Simply drop by the MSU-Bozeman Office of Veteran Services (OVS) after registering for classes and paying your fees and request certification for DVA Education Benefits.

Each Semester - All students receiving VA education benefits need to fill out a VA Certification Activity Sheet each semester they use their benefits. The form can be filled out at OVS, or downloaded below and returned to OVS.

NEW STUDENTS - Print the "New Student Checklist" and complete each step before the start of class.

NEW APPLICANTS - If you are a new DVA education benefits applicant, you collected benefits only while on active duty, or you are applying for benefits under a program different from that which you used in the past, you must complete an Application for Education Benefits. Call the MSU-Bozeman Office of Veteran Services for details.

If you have already completed an application and have received a VA form 22-1999 and Certificate of Eligibility, bring both to the OVS upon your arrival at MSU. Do not complete VA form 22-1999 yourself, as it requires the signature of the certifying official at the school you attend.

When You Apply - All students receiving VA education benefits need to read and sign the Veteran Standards Letter for their file. This letter is provided to assist you in applying for and receiving your DVA education benefits. This letter can be filled out at OVS, or downloaded below and returned to OVS.

In order to receive monthly education benefits while enrolled in classes at MSU-Bozeman, your enrollment must be certified each term by the Certifying Official in the MSU-Bozeman Office of Veteran Services. You should expect an approximately six week delay from the date of initial certification until the first benefits check arrives.
