- If the individual is unknown to the department you should request that the rRegulatory Rrepresentative must provide you with proper identification.
- Contact the following departments/individuals:
- Department Head
- Departmental Safety Coordinator
- Safety and Risk Management
- Discuss the intended scope of the inspection with the Regulatory Representative, guidance for such discussions is located (link here).Inform the regulatory representative that you would first like to sit down and discuss the intended scope of the inspection with them. Conduct them to an office or meeting room for this purpose.
- Contact the appropriate Department Head and Departmental Safety Coordinator.
- Contact Safety and Risk Management and inform them of the unannounced inspection. Safety and Risk Management will attempt to dispatch an available representative to participate in the pre-inspection discussion and subsequent workplace inspection.
- The pre-inspection discussion should attempt to establish the following:
- The reason for the unannounced inspection (complaint, observed problems, or just random)
- The work areas to be inspected.
- Any specific materials, operations, or equipment to be targeted.
- The expected amount of time the inspector would like to spend on site.
- Request the inspector provide an estimated time within which the inspector's report will be made available.
- Take good notes of the areas and operations inspected, making note of any specific concerns or comments expressed by the inspector.

- Montana Department of Environmental Quality
- Montana Department of Labor and Industry – Safety Bureau
- Montana State Fire Marshal
- Bozeman Fire Department
- U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission
- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
- Bozeman Utilities – Water and Sewer Dept.
