What is a Town Hall Meeting?
An open forum where the curious and the engaged gather to share questions ideas and histories in civil and critical contexts...a peaceful meeting wherein we share insights, suggest solutions, and eat some carrot cake...and debriefing with cool and helpful folks from across the community...an opportunity to learn, to be heard, to listen, and make a change for the better in YOUR world!
The Town Hall Meeting is a distinctive feature of the University Studies First Year Seminar (US 101) Program. Our hope is that the Town Hall Meeting, as an event and curriculum, will allow students, instructors, and community members to discover their voice and share knowledge, insights, and expertise. We also hope to encourage student involvement and build connections within and across the community.
The Town Hall Meeting will convene in the MSU Strand Union Ballroom D at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2008. After some brief introductory remarks, participants will move to small group discussions that are led by the US 101US students. All are encouraged to participate and join the discussion. After these discussions, we will end the evening with a dessert reception in the Strand Union. Here, the discussion can continue and students and participants can meet with policy experts to deliberate, negotiate, and plan action.
