MSU recently upgraded its subscriptions to Community of Science and SPIN to include funding alert
services. These are customized e-mail services that alert individual scholars to new and updated
funding opportunities that match their research interests and for which they are eligible. Over
half a million scholars worldwide use these services to identify funding sources, to promote their
experience and research, and to identify peer reviewers and collaborators worldwide.
These databases are NOT just for scientists. They also include funding opportunities in the
humanities, arts, social sciences and related disciplines.
Funding Alerts from Community of Science (COS)
When your name was added to the COS database, an introductory search was created by COS. If
you find that you are receiving alerts that are too broad or that do not fit your area of
expertise, we encourage you to go into COS Funding Alert (via your COS Workbench) at www.cos.com and create personalized searches by selecting your own keywords, funding type or
sponsor type. COS sends these alerts weekly when there is a match.
Funding Alerts from SPIN
When keywords are selected in your faculty expertise profile (in GENIUS) at spin2000.infoed.org/officemenu.asp, they are automatically used for matching and will result in funding alert e-mails (potentially daily).
All information in the faculty expertise profiles and funding alerts can be modified by you
at any time. COS and SPIN services can be accessed from off campus with your username and password.
Please call Audrey Thurlow at 994-6240 if you need assistance or want a demonstration of these services.
