NSF Days Workshop

Presented by the National Science Foundation

Sponsored by Montana State University, VP for Research

Sept 13-14, 2007

MSU NSF Days Workshop is a two-day workshop providing an introduction to and overview of the National Science Foundation. There will be presentations on the programs from the major NSF directorates such as: Mathematical and Physical Sciences; Biological Sciences; Computer and Information Sciences and Engineering; Education and Human Resources; Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences; Engineering; and Geosciences. There will also be time for participants to chat informally with NSF program managers.

Day one will cover the basics of NSF; the NSF proposal; the Merit Review Process; Cross-Disciplinary Research and Special Interest Programs; and includes time to network with NSF program officers and colleagues from colleges and universities throughout the region. There will also be time for participants to chat informally with NSF program managers.

Day two (optional) features hands-on sessions on using NSF's FastLane system and Grants.gov and is geared toward junior faculty, support staff, and research administrators. An overview of each system, basic functions for users, tips and tricks to submit proposals successfully, and how to track and monitor your projects will be provided. A session for PIs is basically pre-award; and a session for grant administrators covers post-award. One-on-one help will be available to participants. Space is limited.

The National Science Foundation is charged with keeping our nation's science and engineering enterprise healthy, dynamic, and relevant and with advancing science, mathematics, engineering, and technology education at all levels from pre-K through postdoctoral. It is our hope that events such as this will stimulate new interest in NSF programs at institutions that have not been among our traditional customers, as well as at premier research institutions.
