All Financial Aid is handled through the University of Washington. Therefore, if you will be depending on financial aid, please get in touch with Diane Noecker at the University of Washington. Remember that you will have to pay expenses (rent, fees and tuition, etc.) at Montana State University in August, and you will not receive financial aid from the University of Washington until October unless you have made the appropriate arrangements for an emergency short-term loan. It is extremely important to take care of this now or you will be stuck with no money and substantial late registration fees. Your short-term loan check will be available at the WWAMI office at the time that your tuition and fees are due. This budget with the exception of tuition is the same as all first year WWAMI sites.

4. IMMUNIZATIONS
Montana law requires that students be immunized against certain infectious diseases before they are allowed to register. The Health History Form that we sent you lists the MSU immunization requirements. You should have a physician document any immunizations that you have had, give you any immunizations that you need and sign the immunization form. You will also need to have a tuberculosis skin test done after July 1, 2008 or it can be done during our orientation. Return your Health History Form to the WWAMI Program. Please take care of the immunizations now. Failure to do so will result in big time hassles and long waiting lines when you are trying to register and pay fees.
Hepatitis B immunizations will be done after you start school. These will be provided at no additional cost beyond the $475.00 fee paid to the University of Washington. Therefore, unless you need a hepatitis immunization for some other specific reason, we recommend that you do not get your hepatitis shots before arriving.
5. HOUSING Most students live off campus in housing that they find through newspaper ads and bulletin boards, etc. Some years it has been difficult to find housing, so you should plan to spend some time working on this, probably in July or August if not earlier. You should have received a packet of housing information and a roommate form. Return the roommate form to the WWAMI Program, and we will distribute it to your classmates.
Only graduate or family on-campus housing is suitable for WWAMI students (use the family housing application form for both). Do not apply for or accept undergraduate or mixed undergraduate and graduate housing. Our teaching schedule does not follow the undergraduate calendar and the undergraduate dorms will be closed at times that you will want to be on campus. Contact the Family and Graduate Housing Program at: http://www.montana.edu/wwwocl/F&G_Housing/application.html to download an application for housing. If you are interested in on campus housing, you should apply as early as possible.
If you are interested in getting a Sunday edition of the Bozeman Daily Chronicle for rental listings, the phone number is (406) 587-4491. The Bozeman Daily Chronicle classified advertisements can also be accessed on the web at http://bozemandailychronicle.com/classifieds/.
Some Bozeman Rental Agencies include:
Peak Property Management (406) 585-7776
The Rental Professionals (406) 585-1775
Housing bulletin boards are available in the WWAMI office and at the Strand Union Building on campus.
6. ORIENTATION
Orientation activities for the entering class of 2008 will begin on Monday morning, August 18, 2008 in room 325 Leon Johnson Hall at 9:00 a.m. on the MSU campus. Although the details have not been finalized, orientation activities are scheduled to include an overnight expedition in the nearby countryside on Monday, August 18. We have found that spouses are an integral part of the social activities of WWAMI students, and therefore spouses are encouraged to attend any of the orientation activities, including the overnight component. Classes will begin on Wednesday morning, August 20.
7. BUYING BOOKS AND EQUIPMENT
We recommend that you not buy books until you first meet with your instructors or have spoken with them. The University of Washington has instituted a requirement that students have laptop computers. You should receive the computer specifications recommended by UW directly from them. The requirements and computer specifications are located on the UWSOM Orientation webpage, please refer to this page to find out what UWSOM is requiring for your computer. This requirement allows the cost of a computer to be included in your financial aid. Our Microscopic Anatomy class here at MSU is taught by computer CD so a laptop computer that can be taken to lab is very helpful and we count on at least one-half of the class being able to bring a laptop.
8. PRECEPTORSHIP
The preceptorship is an integral part of the first year curriculum. One morning each week in the first semester will be spent with a primary care physician. It is an opportunity to experience clinical practice and at the same time appreciate the relevancy of study in the basic sciences. The Preceptor Director will attempt to match you with a practice coinciding with your interest. Please complete the questionnarie that is sent in your first WWAMI mailing and return it to us to assist us in this process. Understand, however, that a perfect match may not always be possible. Additional opportunities may also be offered in the second semester.
MEDS 516 Clinical Preceptorship
9. CURRENT ADDRESS / E-MAIL ADDRESS
If you are not going to be at the address where we have sent your information packet, please be sure that we know where we can reach you during the summer. Please be sure we have your e-mail address, if you currently have one. We e-mail housing information if you have provided your e-mail address to our office. If you currently do not have an e-mail address, you can wait since you will be required to have a University of Washington e-mail address after orientation.
We will be sending additional mailings this summer regarding health insurance, orientation, and your schedule. If you have questions about these items or other issues please write or give us a call, or send e-mail to: wwami@montana.edu.
Please make sure the WWAMI office has your current address at all times.
