illustrations. The fable is drawn from the riddles, myths, and traditions
of West African people as well as from descriptions of tropical rain forests
by early adventurers and present-day scientists. The book contains a fable
about a young boys journey from the savanna to the rain forest to solve
the riddle, A slender staff touches earth and sky at the same time. Factual
information about this early sound instrument and easy-to-follow directions
to build a rainstick are included. Cost $9.95.

In The Rainstick,
A Fable, a young boy living in a small village in West Africa goes
on a quest to learn about water and its relationship to his world.
On his journey, he meets a storyteller, lions, a crocodile, and a talking
bird. They all help him learn about the interdependency of the many
elements of our environment. They also help him to learn the magic
of the rainstick!
