Internet-Based K-12 Earth System Science Instruction

INTERNET-BASED K-12 EARTH SYSTEM SCIENCE INSTRUCTION

January 26 - May 8, 1998

Participants will learn to use powerful visualization and telecommunications tools to teach K-12 integrated mathematics and science lessons. Network Montana Project Earth System Science curricular materials lead teachers to a wealth of online resources. Participants will adapt these materials to their own instructional environments.

Earth system science emphasizes the dynamic interrelationships among changes in the atmosphere, ocean circulation patterns, and environmental processes on and beneath the earth's surface. Internet-based K-12 Earth System Science Instruction is designed for K-12 teachers already familiar with using Internet tools. Participants will integrate concepts from earth system science with Internet resources for the classroom and image processing and analysis techniques. Classroom materials developed by the Network Montana Project will serve as model lessons using Internet resources to teach mathematics and science. Necessary scientific background is provided and effective pedagogical strategies are discussed for using computer technology with students at all levels K-12.
