Applications of Technology in the Mathematics Classroom
APPLICATIONS OF TECHNOLOGY IN THE MATHEMATICS CLASSROOM
January 19 - May 8, 1998
This is a one credit hour course to be offered through Extended Studies
during Spring Semester, 1998, and is intended primarily for students
enrolled in the MS degree programs offered by Montana State University.
The course is to be offered in distance mode using MSULink. The purpose
of the course is to provide individuals the chance to advance their
technical skills in the use of mathematics and data technologies. For
many in the course, the experience will entail a thorough introduction
to the TI-92 graphics calculator and the Calculator Based Laboratory
(CBL) system. In addition to these technologies, the materials will
incidentally review high school algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus for
those individuals wishing to take the math modeling course (Math 517)
this summer.
INSTRUCTOR:
Dr. Maurice Burke, Dept. of Mathematical Sciences, Montana State University-Bozeman. Maurice has extensive experience developing high school level curricula that makes extensive use of technology.
CREDIT:
Math 580 - 1 graduate semester credit.
PREREQUISITES:
The course requires you to have access to a TI 92 calculator and a Texas Instruments CBL data gathering device.
TIME COMMITMENT:
3 to 5 hours per week.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
The course is intended for practicing mathematics and science teachers enrolled in the MS degree programs offered by Montana State University.
MATERIALS:
The course requires you to have access to a TI 92 calculator and a Texas Instruments CBL data gathering device.
COST:
Tuition is $90 and the materials fee is $30 (includes shipping).
