Eligibility
Applicants must be:
A) enrolled in a senior
high school which has a high percentage of disadvantaged students (low income, first
generation college students)
B) current
10th thru 12th grade students
C) interested in
attending a college majoring in a science or technology based curriculum.
Support
Apprentices
will be paid $6.75 per hour for
participating in this apprenticeship
program. Residence hall room costs and meals will be
provided by the program.
Expectations
Students are required to abide by general
university regulations and conduct
guidelines and to attend and fully participate
in all MAP activities. Residence hall (dormitory) supervisor(s) will live on the same floor,
enforce the MAP curfew
and will conduct periodic room checks.
Apprentices are NOT allowed to drive, ride
in, or ride on, motorized vehicles nor leave
Bozeman at any time during the program,
unless they are participating in an official
program activity or they have received prior
written permission from parents/guardians
and the MAP Summer Program Director. Any
violations of these regulations will result
in immediate suspension from the program.
Detailed conduct guidelines and
responsibilities will be distributed to
participants during orientation.
Responsibilities
Apprentices will work primarily with an MSU
research scientist in a research laboratory.
Approximately 50% of the work week will be
spent participating in pre-college
classroom-like interaction. The remaining 50%
will be spent working on a research project.
Apprentices will be expected to make
an informal seminar presentation to other
summer participants. Recreational activities
are a part of the six-week program and are
scheduled for most weekends.
