hardcopy flyer version of announcement:

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BRAINSTORMING RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FULFILLING THE GOALS FOR CLASSIFIED & PROFESSIONAL STAFF

as per the President’s Five Year Vision?

President Gamble published the six goals comprising his five year vision for the university in February, 2004 (http://www.montana.edu/upba/vision/visiondoc.html).  He is now creating committees to recommend how to put the plan into action.

Goal II affects faculty and staff.  Craig Roloff (VP for Finance and Administration) and David Dooley (Provost) are coordinating the work of three “tactical teams” working on this goal.  One team each to represent the contribution of staff, professional, and faculty.

CEPAC has been asked to nominate classified personnel to work on either the staff or the professional tactical team.  Each will consist of 12 people (including staff, professional and possibly faculty representatives), chaired by Kathy Hendricks from ITC (staff team) and Susan Alt (Director, PPS, professional team).  Kathy and Susan will select committee members from nominees and submit their final recommendations for committee membership to Vice President Craig Roloff and President Gamble.

This is a wonderful opportunity for staff members to contribute to shared governance in a vital way.

Kathy and Susan make no secret of the considerable commitment being asked of volunteers for this process.  The teams will brainstorm, generate ideas, and collaborate in producing thoroughly researched, viable recommendations for fulfilling the criteria of the Vision:

(i)                  “MSU Bozeman will have a strong sense of campus community and improve its competitive status as an employer”

(ii)                “MSU Bozeman will offer competitive faculty and staff compensation packages”

(iii)               “As the University grows, there will be an increase in faculty, professional and staff positions”

(iv)              “Faculty and staff will have increased access to professional development programs”.

As such, team members should be willing to participate in a collaborative process offering forward thinking input on the “big picture”, accommodating differing viewpoints to generate ideas and recommendations.  Team members are expected to solicit feedback from, and represent the ideas of, their constituent groups.

It is anticipated that the teams will meet for a minimum of two hours per week, every two weeks, starting the first week in September.  Realistically, since the teams’ recommendations are expected to be submitted to UPBAC by the end of October, the time commitment may be greater than this estimation.  The work of the tactical teams is an evolving process. After November 1, the workload should decrease, but requirements thereafter are currently unknown.  Due to the time frames involved, CEPAC reminds you that it is essential to obtain your supervisor’s approval prior to volunteering for this undertaking.

If you wish to pursue the opportunity of participating in this critical process, please call Sara France, CEPAC Secretary (994 4531) by Wednesday, August 18.   You will be asked the following questions in order to provide CEPAC with more information regarding your interest in becoming a Five Year Vision Goal II Staff Tactical Team member.

Name, Department, and Contact Information.  Years of campus service.

Having read the announcement and knowing what the Tactical Team is looking for in a Classified Representative, what attributes would you bring to the team?

Do you have your supervisor's permission and support?

CEPAC will submit nominations to Kathy and Susan by Monday, August 23.
