Research & Education: Programs
American Indian Research Opportunities (AIRO)
AIRO provides educational and research opportunities for American Indian
students in career fields where they are significantly under-represented.
AIRO is a consortium of Montana's seven tribal colleges (Blackfeet
Community College, Dull Knife Memorial College, Fort Belknap College, Fort
Peck Community College, Little Big Horn College, Salish Kootenai College,
and Stone Child College) and MSU-Bozeman.
The Big Sky Institute
The Big Sky Institute for Science and Natural History (BSI) promotes the
distribution of science-based knowledge related to natural ecosystems and the human communities that depend
on them.
BRIN (Montana Network for Biomedical Research Opportunities)
The Montana Network for Biomedical Research Opportunities offers faculty, undergraduate and
graduate students throughout Montana enhanced research opportunities in the biomedical sciences.
Complex Biological Systems
The central goal of the program in Complex Biological Systems is to prepare a new generation of biological scientists broadly equipped to
exploit advanced experimental and computational techniques to understand complex biological systems.
Consortium for the Agricultural Soils Mitigation of Greenhouse Gases (CASMGS)
CASMGS is a consortium of nine universities and one national laboratory assembled to investigate the potential of
agricultural soils to mitigate greenhouse gases.
Economics of Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Mitigation
This research program investigates issues facing the agricultural sector due to climate change, including the impact of
climate change on U.S. cropping systems, and focuses on how to design programs to sequester carbon in agricultural soils.
Inland Northwest Research Alliance (INRA)
The Inland Northwest Research Alliance is a non-profit scientific and educational organization
made up of eight western research universities, including MSU-Bozeman. INRA is a partner in the management and operation
of the U.S. Department of Energy's Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory in Idaho Falls.
Montana and Northern Plains Troops-to-Teachers
The Montana and High Plains Region (Idaho, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Wyoming) Troops-to-Teachers Program assists qualified military personnel make the transition from the armed services to service in the
classrooms of our schools.
Montana Space Grant Consortium
The consortium enhances aerospace research and education in
Montana through research initiation grants, education enhancement grants, undergraduate
research grants and a scholarship-fellowship program. The central consortium office acts
as a statewide clearinghouse for information on NASA and other aerospace-related programs
and takes an active role in alerting consortium faculty about opportunities in research
and education with NASA and other space agencies.
NSF Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR)
EPSCoR, the Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research,
identifies, develops and utilizes the state's academic science and
technology resources. The program is designed to stimulate local action
that will result in lasting improvements to the state's academic research
infrastructure and increased national R&D competitiveness.
Northern Plains Transition to Teaching
The Northern Plains Transition to Teaching program moves seasoned professionals with established
records of excellence into new careers in public school classrooms.
Tradeoff Analysis Project
The project has developed a decision-support system for assessing tradeoffs between agricultural production and the
environmental and human health impacts of agriculture for different agricultural, environmental and health
technologies and policies.
Women in Research and Teaching
This site highlights the research and instructional accomplishments of women at MSU-Bozeman.
It includes updates on grant opportunities for women as well as events, workshops and diversity links.
Institutional Review Committees
Human Subjects Committee
This committee approves research done by faculty, students and staff of
Montana State University that involves human subjects.
Animal Care and Use Committee
This committee reviews the institution's program for the humane care and use
of animals and inspects all of the institution's animal facilities.
Biosafety Committee
The Biosafety Committee monitors and reviews all research and teaching
activities using infectious agents, hazardous chemicals, recombinant DNA and genetically altered organisms.
