Marit Ehmke grew up on a wheat farm in Kansas near a town in which her graduating class totaled 15 people. She received her B.S. in Journalism: News and Information from the University of Kansas in 2013. While at KU, she wrote articles for the Daily Kansan newspaper and interned as a photographer for Hot Press magazine in Dublin, Ireland. After college, she worked at a newspaper as a copy editor, layout designer, photographer and contributing reporter.

She moved to Montana in 2015 to work for the Daily Chronicle because of Bozeman's proximity to excellent outdoor opportunities. Since then, she worked as a program coordinator at a senior center before moving into freelance editing, writing and photography. Marit joined the BBCC team because she loves the collaborative editing process and is excited to contribute what she's learned about communicating effectively.

Fun fact: Marit had her own music show on KJHK (the student-run radio station at KU). Her on-air moniker was DJ Dirty Shirley because of an apparent likeness to Shirley Temple at the time. (A Dirty Shirley is the alcoholic version of the Shirley Temple drink.)
