Can particular cultural identities be expressed through vernacular typography? What can be learned from isolating typography from different parts of the world? Is there such a thing as "typography of place"? We think, yes. This cross national cultural project has become a meaningful archive of the nuances and idiosyncrasies of local cultural traditions in the face of a rapidly globalizing world. And it is set to blow up to significant proportions with the upcoming launch of its own customized mobile app.
Type Directors Club 2013 Exhibition Lecture: Type of Place with Meta Newhouse is part the 2014 President's Fine Art Series: Art Matters a series of artistic and cultural events to celebrate the transformational power of the arts.
The President's Fine Art Series is brought to you by the Montana State University Office of the President and the College of Arts & Architecture. This project is also funded in part by a grant from Humanities Montana, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
